FEMA Assists with Funeral Expenses Related to COVID-19 Deaths

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will start rolling out COVID-19 Funeral Assistance in April 2021, to assist the community with the financial and stressful impact of the pandemic COVID-19.

COVID-19 Funeral Assistance can reimburse individuals with a maximum of $9,000 per funeral for all documentations related to funeral expenses.

Individuals with COVID-19 funeral expenses evidence are advised to keep and collect records for any documentation like receipts of funeral costs, funeral home contracts, etc…that indicates their names as the person in charge of the funeral expenses for the deceased person.

You may be eligible if you made funeral expenses after January 20, 2020 for a person whose death, in the United States, territories, or the District of Columbia, was potentially due to or probably the result of COVID-19.

If there is more than one responsible person of the funeral expenses, this person can register in the same application as a co-applicant with the applicant.

To register and complete your application you will need the following information and documents:

➣ For the deceased individual, you will need:

. The death certificate showing COVID-19

. Deceased’s Social Security Number

. Deceased’s date of birth

. The address of the location where the death occurred

➣ For the Applicant, you will need:

.The proof of funeral expenses

. Funeral insurance policies

. Applicant’s Social Security Number

. Applicant’s date of birth

. Information on funds assistance received from any other source (programs or agencies) used for funeral costs (if any, Funeral Assistance will be reduced).

. Applicant’s bank account information for direct deposit of funds (You will receive a check if you chose this option in your application).

Now, The only thing left to do is to know how to apply. FEMA is working on setting up a free dedicated phone number to be used for this program.

On Monday, April 12th, 2021, FEMA will start accepting funeral assistance requests via its dedicated call center.
